Immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has revealed that he was nearly retired by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, 21 years ago at the rank of Major.

He said this during his official handover to Major General Ibrahim Attahiru at the Army Headquarters on Thursday as he described his attainment of the rank of Lieutenant General and Chief of Army Staff as historic.

“Former President Olusegun Obasanjo almost retired me 21 years ago when I was a Major. My retirement after 40 years of Service is historic, hence, calls for gratitude, he said

Buratai, while appreciating the troops serving home and abroad, added that the Nigerian Army has been “better positioned with intelligence gathering techniques and equipment.”

“The security situation across the country is largely stabilized under my watch, and my administration will be remembered for improved professionalism, improved responsiveness to personnel welfare, and responsiveness to Nigeria’s democratic system, he said

  1. I personally would have loved that it least someone else would have been the Cheif if army staff and who knows maybe he would have done better

  2. He should have retired you then because the you perpetrated on 20/10/2020 will be lingering in people’s hearts.

  3. Are you sure that security unde you then were stabilize under your watch but lots of people died under your watch also.

  4. It would have saved the country the horror of your service if had sacked you. The old man saw the evil black devilish heart you possessed and want to get rid of you from the army. If you had been sacked then, the innocent people you wasted their lives both the civilians and the army would still be alive today. May Nigeria never ever have your kind in the top echelon of military cadre
