US donates over $325,000 worth of equipment to Nigeria Police to combat Boko Haram

The office of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) of the United States Embassy has donated equipment worth over $325,000 to the Nigerian Police Force to assist in it’s fight against terrorism.

INL Director James Jewett who presented the equipment to the Commissioner of Police Akeera Yunuss Mohammed, representing the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu in Abuja said the equipments which will be transferred to the Mobile Patrol Division of the Nigeria Police Force officers assigned to Borno State is to be used in combating the Boko Haram insurgents.

“For the 500 officers of the Mobile Police Force currently serving in the state, INL provided bulletproof protective vests and bulletproof helmets, goggles, and 20 ballistic shields. A tent, mosquito nets, first aid boxes, heavy-duty flashlights, foldable mattresses, and other hygiene products were also provided. By providing these supplies and equipment, INL is complimenting prior USAID investments in Borno State through the Office of Transition Initiatives,” the United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria said. Jewett said

“We are proud to stand with Nigerian law enforcement on the front line of maintaining peace and security. This donation will improve the health and security of those brave men and women committed to providing law and order, he added

  1. Nigeria police dose not need equipment, what they need is rebranding and restructuring. If you like buy heaven and earth for them, they can not fight insecurity in Nigeria. But I must commend the US government for there gesture.

  2. Kudos to the US government for taking bold step by providing equipment for our force once they know that our leaders won’t get them anything.

  3. I hope with these protective equipment, police officers will be able to carry out their work diligently without being intimidating.

  4. We really appreciate the gesture and I hope federal government will compliment the effort of US by providing incentive for them.

  5. I urge those that are in charge of this thing to let the equipment get to those who ought to use it not that you people will divert it.
