Nigeria ranks 28th Position in FIFA’s latest world ranking

In the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, has climbed 14 places to reach the 28th position.

This rise in ranking follows Nigeria’s notable performance at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Despite securing the silver medal, having lost 2 – 1 to Cote d’Ivoire in the final, Nigeria’s performance has evidently boosted its standing in the FIFA rankings.

“Indeed, across the two continents, no fewer than six teams have scaled ten places or more. Amongst the African sides, Côte d’Ivoire (39th, up 10) reap the rewards of their continental triumph on home soil, secured following an eventful tournament campaign,” FIFA wrote on its website while announcing the latest ranking.

“Beaten finalists Nigeria (28th, up 14) make significant strides but are no match for the Angola side they ousted in the last eight (93rd, up 24), who are the biggest climbers in the latest installment of the global ranking.”

The top ten African teams are;

  • Morocco – 12
  • Senegal – 17
  • Nigeria – 28
  • Egypt – 36
  • Ivory Coast – 39
  • Tunisia – 41
  • Algeria – 43
  • Mali – 47
  • Cameroon – 51
  • South Africa – 59
