“I am not a law enforcement officer “- Bashir Ahmad says after attending a wedding where most of the guests weren’t wearing face masks
Personal Assistant to President Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, is currently being tackled on Twitter after he shared photos of himself at a wedding in Bauchi state today January 30.
He posted the photos and wrote
”In Bauchi, for my good friend, @IbrahimRabo08’s wedding fatiha to his beautiful wife, Maimuna. May Allah bless their union with peace, understanding, love and beautiful children. Allah ya ba su zaman lafiya da fahimtar juna.”
However, some Nigerians pointed out that the the groom and guests were not wearing face masks , a violation of the COVID19 protocols.
A Twitter user @Ojornelu, wrote
”Then at night when NCDC drops their numbers you’d come tell us to wear a mask but can’t do the same to the people around you.”
Responding to her comment, Bashir stated that he is not an enforcement officer and that there is a limit to what he can do.
”First, I am not a law enforcement officer, so there is limit to what one can do. Secondly, I can’t love them more than they love themselves, ours is to encourage, advise and also tell them the consequence of their actions. Keep advising people to always wear their masks, please.”he responded
This comes few days after President Buhari signed the executive law permitting anyone flouting the COVID19 protocols be arrested and prosecuted.

Nigerians in his comment section are asking if the young men will be arrested as stipulated by the law that has been signed.

That’s exactly what I am saying, Nigeria laws are only for the poor. The rich are above the law
you are a fool for saying that even though the president has an order to prosecutes any offenders who doesn’t follow COVID protocol….
Do we have law in this country? I don’t think so because influencials will violate law and nothing will happen but if it is average Nigerian the person will be arrested.
I hope those in charge will arrest and prosecute these people because the protocol has become law once he has been signed by the president into law.
Nigeria is a lawless country which those in power can do whatever they like and nobody will penalize them.
This will serve as reference if anybody is later arrested by law enforcement agencies on the account of not wearing face mask.
Even the president that signed the law to.wear mask does not wear the mask. Is he immune to the virus. Sometimes we make laws that we can’t even obey, yet we expect others to obey them. The president signed are law to wear mask but while signing the law, he was not.wearing any mask
