Deji Adeyanju has reacted to the controversy surrounding the new naira notes. He said the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele has outsmarted politicians using the Naira redesign.

Following the redesign of the Naira, Emefiele had fixed December 31st as a deadline for the swap of the old naira notes with the new ones and further postponed it to the 10th of February following the outcry of the deadline

Amid the deadline extension, the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna alleged that the redesign naira policy was targeted at the party’s presidential drive.

Reacting to this, Adeyanju said politicians would not get the new naira notes during the 2023 elections.

He said: “No matter the tears El-Rufai and others shed during this period, nobody is delivering new Naira notes to anyone’s house in a Bullion van this time.

“New naira redesign is one of the best decisions of the Emefiele-led CBN, Tinubu’s tears notwithstanding.

“CBN outsmarted the plot by politicians to unleash stockpiled billions on voters for vote buying. The next step is to stop bank executives from handing over new notes to them.”
