As long as it is not against the law, let them breathe – Yomi Fabiyi chides Jaiye Kuti over ‘begging’ actors

Yomi Fabiyi, a renowned Nigerian actor and activist, has responded to actress Jaiye Kuti’s criticism of their colleagues who are seeking financial assistance on social media.

Jaiye Kuti expressed her disapproval of the recent trend among veteran Yoruba actors who are soliciting car gifts and financial support online. In a viral video on Instagram, she stated that the older actors should take responsibility for their present predicament, attributing it to their past careless financial choices during their active years in the industry. She emphasized the importance of preparing for the future in a job that lacks a pension scheme, sharing her own plans for securing her future.

In response, Yomi Fabiyi took to Instagram to share his thoughts. He explained that many of the veterans seeking support had been exploited in the past, and therefore, the recent trend should not be a cause for concern to anyone.

“If anybody needs help and indeed comes public with his or her brand, name, and face only, I don’t see why it should bother anyone. If you cannot find the means to recover all these veterans’ losses via piracy and exploitation by capitalists, then let them breathe. We, the new millennium actors, are a little luckier, but not better. We must learn to respect people’s decisions, choices, and actions. All man for himself. Comparison is proof of nothing.

“No matter how uncomfortable and displeased you are with someone else’s decisions or actions, if it is not against the law and falls within the person’s rights, it is an outright act of arrogance, a crime, and grandeur of delusion to attempt to rubbish such person. Caveat! I hate pretence, arrogance, and fake lives.”
