It favours Lagos over the North – Kano rejects FG’s sharing formula for N500bn palliative

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has expressed his opposition to the federal government’s proposed sharing formula for the recently approved N500 billion palliative.

The federal government had announced plans to utilize the Bank of Industry to support small-scale industries in different geopolitical zones. Governor Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, criticized the distribution formula, stating that it heavily favored Lagos State and the South-South zone, putting other states and zones at a disadvantage.

He highlighted that Lagos would receive 47% of the allocation, followed by the South-South Zone with 17%, while other regions would receive considerably lower percentages.

During a meeting with representatives from the Kano Cooperative Society at the state government house, Governor Yusuf described this distribution as unfair, unconstitutional, and illegal. He urged relevant authorities, including members of the National Assembly, to rectify the situation and take appropriate action against those responsible.
