Court orders DSS to allow Kanu access to medical records, doctors

Justice Binta Nyako, presiding over a Federal High Court in Abuja, issued an order to the Department of State Services (DSS) to grant detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, access to doctors of his choice and his medical records.

The ruling was made in response to a suit filed on behalf of Kanu by his legal team, led by Mike Ozekhome (SAN). Justice Nyako emphasized that despite being in custody, Kanu has a constitutional right to consult the medical professionals he desires and to have access to his medical records. She further directed that any medical examination conducted on the IPOB leader must be supervised by the DSS, with the entire process being recorded and sealed for security purposes.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2341/2022, Kanu had sought to have independent medical professionals assess his health condition to determine his true state of health.
