Nigerian military buries 22 officers killed in Niger

A somber ceremony is taking place at the National Military Cemetery in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as the remains of 22 military personnel who lost their lives during combat operations in Niger State are being laid to rest. On August 14, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported the tragic demise of 36 officers who were killed in action. These officers were aboard a helicopter that was shot down by insurgents in the Zungeru region of Niger State.

The troops had been deployed to Kundu village in Wushishi Local Government Area following recent acts of banditry in the area. While some of the fallen officers had already been interred by their respective families, the remaining 22 are being laid to rest on Friday. Present at the ceremony are dignitaries including the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and other prominent service chiefs.
