Marriage is not a badge of honour – Nigerian lady says after her aunt’s ‘unfortunate’ husband abandoned her in the hospital for having a baby girl 

A woman from Nigeria emphasized the necessity of educating women that marriage shouldn’t be seen as a symbol of prestige. She recounted an incident where her aunt’s spouse deserted her at the hospital simply because she gave birth to a baby girl.

Her aunt had married an inconsiderate man who abandoned her. In response, the woman’s grandparents took their daughter back home and refunded the husband’s bride price. The woman advocated for teaching women the importance of understanding that marriage should be based on care and love not just a societal accolade, and encouraged leaving if such care and affection are absent.
