Tinubu files motion to stop Chicago University from releasing his academic records to Atiku

Expressing dissatisfaction with the directive from the United States Magistrate Court instructing Chicago State University to disclose his academic records to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku, President Bola Tinubu has submitted a request to the District Court to suspend the implementation of the order.

The magistrate court had mandated Chicago University to furnish Atiku with Tinubu’s academic records within 48 hours.

However, Tinubu argued in a new application on Thursday that the magistrate violated the constitution by acting as the final authority in matters of discovery. He contended that a magistrate should only report and provide recommendations to the district judge in such cases.

Tinubu further asserted that the magistrate court had issued what appeared to be a conclusive order on September 19, mandating immediate compliance starting on September 21.

He urged the court to postpone the enforcement of the magistrate’s order until September 25, 2023, to adequately assess the order’s extent and its lawful application to the given circumstances.
