NLC, TUC declare nationwide strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have announced a nationwide strike due to the Federal Government’s failure to address their requests.

During separate National Executive Council meetings in Abuja on Tuesday, both unions declared that the strike would commence on October 3, 2023.

NLC President Joe Ajaero, speaking at a joint press conference in Abuja, emphasized that the government’s lack of action in meeting their demands left them with no choice but to initiate an indefinite strike. He pointed to the government’s indifferent stance, particularly regarding the subsidy removal policy, as a primary factor in their decision.

President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo, added that all workers are expected to withdraw their services starting from October 3rd, as resolved during their council meetings.
