Friendly joke – Supreme Court says, dismisses Atiku’s fresh evidence

The Supreme Court has rejected Atiku Abubakar’s request to introduce new evidence in his appeal against President Bola Tinubu, citing a lack of jurisdiction.

The highest court characterized Atiku’s petition as a mere formality, stating that it could not be granted. It also noted that the case was filed after the specified deadline and failed to establish evidence of forgery.

Atiku had applied to the Supreme Court for permission to present fresh evidence of forgery against Tinubu. He argued that the court should consider the matter due to its constitutional and democratic significance.

The fresh evidence in question was Tinubu’s academic records, which he received from Chicago State University (CSU) on October 2. Atiku contended that this new evidence was crucial to his appeal and asserted that the court had the inherent jurisdiction to assess and rule on the application.

Nonetheless, the Supreme Court maintained that it lacked the authority to consider the fresh evidence due to the expiration of the constitutionally prescribed time limit.
