Court remands Emefiele in Kuje Prison

Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has directed that Godwin Emefiele, the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), be held in Kuje prison pending the resolution of his bail application.

During his trial before the court on November 17, the ruling specified that Emefiele would be detained until November 22, the scheduled date for the hearing of his bail motion. His lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, presented the bail application, which Rotimi Oyedepo vehemently opposed on behalf of the Federal Government.

Justice Muazu determined that a bench ruling could not be immediately issued, considering the numerous legal authorities cited by the opposing parties. The judge conveyed the need for a brief period to examine the authorities and review the grounds put forth by Emefiele in support of his bail.
