Ibadan: Explosion has rendered me homeless – Former deputy gov. of Oyo State laments

Barrister Iyiola Oladokun, a former deputy governor of Oyo State, revealed that he and his family experienced the impact of the explosion that occurred in Ibadan on the night of January 16.

Oladokun shared that the explosion destroyed his house, leaving him nowhere to stay. The incident, which occurred at Dejo Oyelese Close, Bodija Housing Estate, Ibadan, claimed at least two lives and left 77 individuals injured, causing extensive damage to numerous homes.

Addressing reporters on January 17, Oladokun, who served as deputy governor during Alhaji Lam Adesina’s tenure from 1999 to 2003, expressed that his residence was one of the properties affected by the explosion. Consequently, he and his family are unable to inhabit their home due to the devastation caused by the incident.

Oladokun said, “I am one of the residents of Dejo Oyelese Close. My house was affected.

“We were just watching the football match when the explosion occurred. All the doors that were closed were forced open.

“It was very devastating. All the doors, burglaries, windows and even the roof have gone.

“We give glory to God that me and my wife were not hurt.

“I am just coming back now because we can’t sleep here again. We couldn’t sleep here yesterday. We had to use our phone to move out yesterday. We had to find somewhere to sleep yesterday.”
