My dad co-wrote National Anthem but never got credit – Veteran singer, Eddy Remedy

Eddy Remedy, a seasoned singer and former member of The Remedies, shared that his father, Edward Ashiedu Brown, served in the Nigeria Police Band and contributed to composing the national anthem. Despite his father’s involvement, credit was solely attributed to his boss, Benedict Elise Odiase, the band’s director.

Remedy lamented that his father, a retired police officer, has yet to receive any national recognition for his role in creating the anthem. He revealed that his father’s disappointment led him to discourage Remedy from pursuing a musical career, fearing that Nigeria wouldn’t appreciate his efforts.

Speaking in a recent interview with Daddy Freeze, Eddy Remedy said, “Now I understand why my dad didn’t want me to do music. Because they did the same thing to him. My Dad was among those who wrote the national anthem. But what did he get? Did they give him any recognition? Instead, they gave all the credit to his boss, [Benedict] Odiase, who was the commissioner of Police then,” he lamented.
