Philip Shaibu wins Edo PDP parallel governorship primary election

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has won a factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election for the governorship race on September 21, 2024. Shaibu secured 301 out of 559 votes, declared by Returning Officer Moses Bartholomew.

However, tensions arose as Edo State Security Network personnel reportedly stormed the venue, obstructing delegates and journalists. Before the parallel primary, some delegates protested being barred from participating. Shaibu assured them their votes would count, promising to relay their message to the PDP National Headquarters. He expressed confidence in victory both in the primaries and the main election in September.
