Large turnout as NLC protest kicks off in Abuja

The nationwide protest planned by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for February 27th and 28th, addressing the country’s high cost of living, has begun in Abuja.

NLC had notified its members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to participate in protests against the challenges faced by civil servants in Nigeria.

Recalling that on February 8th, NLC and the Trade Union Congress issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government due to the failure to implement agreements reached on October 2nd following the removal of fuel subsidy.

However, given ongoing economic difficulties, the union opted for a two-day nationwide protest to assert their demands.

Despite security advisories from the Department of State Services (DSS), the union initiated the protest in various cities nationwide.

Aggrieved Nigerians and workers were observed gathering at the Labour House alongside security personnel in the early hours of Tuesday.
