UN calls for immediate, unconditional release of abducted Katsina Pupils

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has reacted to the abduction that took place at Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State on Friday.

Mr Guterres’ reaction in a statement by UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric on Monday in New York called for the “immediate and unconditional” release of over 300 male students, that were abducted from the school.

“The secretary-general strongly condemns the December 11 attack on a secondary school in Katsina State, Nigeria and the reported abduction of hundreds of boys by suspected armed bandits,” the statement said.

“He calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the abducted children and for their safe return to their families. The secretary-general reiterates that attacks on schools and other educational facilities constitute a grave violation of human rights.”

The UN chief urged security agencies to arrest and bring those responsible for the heinous act to justice. He reaffirmed the “solidarity and support” of the of the organisation to the federal government and Nigerians in their fight “against terror, violent extremism and organised crime.”

    How I wish they will enforce the call if the bandits do not heed to the call
    What is happening in Nigeria is getting out of hand and should be tackled by both the government and international organizations

  2. When ICC said they want to investigate those responsible for sponsorship of bokoharam and other security threat in the country, the COAS came out condemn the action following day more than 500 students were abducted in kastina.

  3. If UN can come to our rescue it will be an added advantage to Nigerians because this government doesn’t have anything to offer.

  4. Our leaders don’t value their citizens that why they didn’t bother to make life better for us. All what they are after is their selfish interest.

  5. UN should kindly assist us and come to our rescue, they (politicians) make miserable for us, they should help us unravel those sponsoring these bandits and other terrorism.
