‘Send Metuh back to Prison’ — EFCC appeals to Supreme Court

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked the supreme court to send former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh back to prison.

The court of appeal had voided Metuh’s conviction on December 16 on the grounds that the trial judge exhibited bias in the case who had to order a retrial before a different judge.

However, in a new development, EFCC has filed an appeal hinged on six grounds before the supreme court seeking to upturn the lower court’s verdict.

In the appeal, Sylvanus Tahir, EFCC counsel, argued that the judgment of the court of appeal “occasioned a gross miscarriage of justice.”

Tahir submitted that the appellate court failed to go into the merits of the case as determined by the trial court before making its decision.

The anti-graft commission also contended that the appeal court “erred in law and occasioned a miscarriage of justice by adjudging comments, remarks, views, and opinion expressed by the learned trial judge in his judgment as amounting to bias.”

  1. What I will say is to deal severally with those politicians who use to siphone the money that meant for the development of the country.

  2. Those politicians don’t even care for the citizens except what is going to benefit them, our law is very weak in dealing with corrupt leaders.

  3. Our judiciary is very confused, they fight against each other according to the amount of bribe giving to them. The law is clear but they make it look as if the law is confusing.
