Malnourished 7-year-old girl starved and neglected by her aunt is rescued in Osun state

The Osun State Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs has rescued a 7-year-old girl who had been starved and neglected by her aunt in Osogbo, the state capital.

The aunt is said to have given her food only once per week before abandoning her in the backyard of the house in an environment likened to a refuse dump.

The Ministry stepped in after they were informed of the girl’s plight. Officials of the ministry, in collaboration with the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police found the girl in a very bad shape, very skinny and too weak to stand. She also had broken bones. The state government has taken custody of the child and has promised to shelter, educate, feed and take care of the girl’s health.
