Elon Musk removes Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, other’s verification badges

Notable Nigerian musicians including Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Peter Okoye have had their Legacy verification badges removed by the microblogging site Twitter. This action was taken by the platform on Thursday and may be linked to Twitter’s decision to commercialize its verification tick.

In March, Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, hinted at plans to discontinue the Legacy verified program and remove the checkmarks, requiring individuals to sign up for Twitter Blue to maintain their blue checkmark. Musk announced on his verified Twitter handle that the final date for the free Blue badge removal was 4/20.

He said, ”We will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks on the 1st of April. To keep your blue checkmark, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue.”

The Nigerian superstars’ failure to pay their verification subscription fee may be the reason for the removal of their Legacy Blue Tick.

Peter Okoye responded to the removal of his Blue Tick on Friday, stating that “Elon Musk is a businessman, period.”
