Sex for role: Stop blaming people requesting for sex, it happens everywhere – Actress, Joy Tambou

Nollywood Actress, Joy Tambou, has expressed her opinion on the issue of Sex for roles. She stated that filmmakers should not be solely blamed for the sex-for-role epidemic that has been rampant in the movie industry. She believes that many desperate actresses willingly agree to have sex with filmmakers, producers, and directors to secure roles in movies.

In a recent interview with The Nation, Tambou stated that sex is a personal choice, and producers or directors do not force themselves on actresses. She further advised that actors do not need to offer sex to achieve success in their careers, noting that with the internet, it is now possible to showcase acting skills without resorting to such practices.

However, Tambou also expressed her disapproval of those who stereotype Nollywood as a sex-requesting industry, pointing out that the practice of exchanging sex for favors occurs in every sector worldwide.

Tambou said, “Stop blaming producers, stop blaming people that they are requesting for sex. There is no sector in this world that they don’t request for sex but the thing is it is not just in Nollywood alone, it is everywhere. You go to the bank, people request for sex, in politics, law firms, everywhere.”
