Nnamdi Kanu is getting really sick, might die in DSS custody – Ozekhome tells Supreme Court

During the hearing of Nnamdi Kanu’s case, Mike Ozekhome, the senior counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), expressed his concerns to the Supreme Court that his client may die while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The lawyer stated that Kanu is severely ill and in need of surgery. Ozekhome requested that the court grant Kanu’s transfer from DSS custody to the Kuje correctional centre so that he can receive medical treatment.

He said; “My Lords, Nnamdi Kanu is sick, he has been approved for surgery but they have refused to release him for treatment.

“We are pleading for him to be transferred from DSS custody to Kuje correctional centre so that he can begin treatment like others.

“He’s getting really sick, I’m scared he may die in the custody of DSS. Dead bodies are not prosecuted,” BBC News Pidgin quoted Ozekhome as saying.

Reacting to Ozekhome’s plea, the Supreme Court said God will keep Kanu alive and that he will not die in detention.
