Supreme Court Justice, Chima Centus dies at 62

Justice Chima Centus (CC) Nweze of the Supreme Court of Nigeria has reportedly passed away at the age of 64 on Sunday. However, the Supreme Court has not yet confirmed his death at the time of this report.

In the past, Justice Nweze gained attention for a dissenting judgment in 2020, where he declared Emeka Ihedioha of the People Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the 2019 Governorship election in Imo State. He also delivered a controversial judgment in a split decision, declaring then Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yobe North Senatorial District during the 25 February general election.

In 2014, Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration approved his appointment to the Supreme Court based on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
