2023 Women’s world cup: FIFA to pay Nigerian Squad prize bonus directly after NFF canceled their match bonuses

The prize money for the participation of Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the 2023 Women’s World Cup will be received directly from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), according to FIFA Secretary-General Fatma Samoura. This was revealed to the Nigerian women’s team on Monday in the dressing room of Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium after their 0-0 draw against the Republic of Ireland in the final group stage match of the World Cup.

In a video posted by UK-based Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Samoura conveyed to the Super Falcons, “It is because of you that for the first time in FIFA’s history, the prize money for the Women’s World Cup will be paid directly to you, the players.”

Furthermore, Obayiuwana shared that FIFA’s director for Africa, Gelson Fernandes, informed him that Samoura, who will be leaving her position at FIFA in a few months, has tasked him with ensuring that the players receive the designated prize money.
