Clothes that were brought for the defendant had lion’s head, it offends our standard procedure – DSS speaks on why they denied Nnamdi Kanu change of clothes

The Department of State Services, DSS, has disclosed why it has refused Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, from changing his clothes.

Kanu’s trial resumed on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with him wearing his regular Fendi outfit which led his lead Counsel, Mike Ozekhome to complain to Justice Nyako of the DSS, refusing to allow the IPOB leader a change of clothes.

In their response, the DSS Director of Legal Services, whose name was not mentioned, told Justice Binta Nyako that Kanu was denied because the attire brought for him had lion’s head on them and it offends the service’s standard operating procedures.

“My Lord, clothes that were brought for the defendant had lion’s head embroiled on them, and the defendant (Mr Kanu) can’t wear clothes with a lion’s head.”

“Clothes with lion’s head offend the standard operating procedures of the SSS.”

Following his explanation, the judge asked Kanu what type of clothes he preferred.

Responding, Kanu said: “I want to wear the clothes of my people, Isi Agu.”
