Breaking: Court grants Emefiele N20m Bail

On Tuesday, a Federal High Court in Lagos granted bail to the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

The court approved a bail sum of N20 million along with a surety in the same amount for Emefiele. This decision came after he faced a two-count charge of illegal possession of a firearm, brought against him by the Department of State Service (DSS).

Emefiele’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu, argued that the offense for which his client was charged is bailable, following Emefiele’s plea of not guilty to the two-count charge.

Approximately a month ago, the DSS apprehended Emefiele after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu. Arriving at the court around 9:23 a.m. in a white Toyota Hilux pick-up van with the license plate concealed, Emefiele disembarked from the vehicle with the assistance of a female before facing Justice Nicolas Oweibo.
